Welcome everyone to Rolleston Christian School in 2016. I’m Dennis Marshall the Deputy Principal and also the Senior Hub teacher. We have now been underway for one week. It was a great feeling sitting back and looking at our new student group during our first assembly. I felt that we were becoming a “real” school, as we had double the number from last year and we also had quite a difference in the range of sizes!
This year we have introduced our Senior Hub – the Years 6 and 7 pupils. As mentioned above, I have the priviledge of teaching this group this year, alongside Mr Andrew Miller who will be taking them on Wednesday mornings. It was fascinating watching them form as a group throughout the week. Unlike last year we have an almost even split between boys and girls (8 boys, 7 girls). We also have a reasonable balance between last years pupils and our new pupils this year. This has resulted in the class having to ‘re-establish’ themselves – both new and old. It provides an excellent base for new beginnings. In the book of Lamentations it says:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. (Chapter3: v22-23)
Our theme for this term is ‘Love’, and we pray that the children will start each day as a new day and learn to share and accept God’s love for them through our learning and interactions each day at school. I was very excited and proud of the Senior Hub when they came up with our Class Expectations for the year. The first four read:
- We can trust each other.
- We will put others before ourselves.
- We will use good manners and show kindness in and out of school.
- We will support each other and keep each other on task.
These values reflect the theme of ‘Love’ and they are the things that we would like to see happen at RCS this year. The list was their own and without prompts. As our role models at the school it looks like we’re in for a great year. I hope you too can sense God’s love at our school when you visit.
