Message from Staff

Kia ora,

A very big thank you to everyone who came out and helped with the Food Forest on Saturday.  It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with others in the school community and take part in creating a really special space in our school.  I hope the muscles have recovered!

Starting on the Food Forest is a good reminder of the time it takes to see a vision come to pass. After 7 hours of fairly hard work it looked as though we had only made a small dent in the work that needs to be done to achieve our vision of having a space where children and nature can interact in harmony, and food can be produced to bring Love and Hope to the world.  It takes some effort to achieve big things and it is important to do things one step at a time.

I think most things in life are a bit like that.  We have big dreams for things we want to see in life but we have to take many small steps to get there.  To me our value of Excellence involves the perseverance to keep on going, even when it feels as though the mountains (mulch and dirt in the case of the Food Forest) are large and the little steps are not making much of a difference.

Excellence is not achieved in one magical moment, but through dedication and persistence towards a goal.  It involves looking at the obstacles and finding ways to overcome them.

I encourage you to keep on taking those small steps in your life and towards your dreams.  I also encourage you to come on down this Saturday to help us see the vision of a Food Forest become a reality.

Many Blessings,

Exploring the Values at Home

This week we will be continuing to look at the 10 Commandments, looking at how God tells us to not steal or take from others.

In Circle Time we will be looking at our seventh Life Rule “It isn’t just what happens to me that matters but how I think about it.”

If God does not want us to steal what is the opposite that we should do instead?
Who is affected by stealing?
How does it make people feel when we are generous towards them?
How do we feel when we are generous towards people?

Family challenge of the week:
Find someone that you can be generous towards in some way.

Literacy Listeners
Junior Hub are needing a number of adults who are available during school mornings, to listen one on one to children reading. They could be grandparents, parents, neighbours, friends from church. Please ask around. Once a character reference has been provided to the school office and a Police Check form filled out, these people will be given some training by a teacher and included into a regular roster – that could be a day a week or fortnight or several days, depending on the listener’s availability. Please see Amy Steven (021 225 4653) for more info or Heather at the school office.

School Donations
Thank you to those people that have paid the school donation.  Your contribution makes a difference, allowing us greater freedom in the budget to provide things that enhance the education of your child and other children in the school.

Women’s Christian Convention
At times the Christian life can seem like a marathon, at any time we can begin to lose sight of the end goal and the reason for our faith. There are so many things that distract or seem to get in the way of joining with our church family on Sunday, getting to Bible study group or even taking time to read the bible and pray.
You are invited to join us on 16th & 17th September for WCC216, when we will be reading from the bible to discover how and why we must keep persevering. Lesley Ramsay from Sydney will be speaking and leading us through a few chapters of the book of Hebrews.
