Message from Staff

Kia ora,

I hope this newsletter finds you well and looking forward to some quality time with your children over the holiday period.

Last week the staff had a ‘Secret Angel’ week.  During the second to last week of term, which is often a difficult week in the life of a school as people, children and adults alike, are getting tired, it was really lovely to have someone else to consciously bless.  It reminded me of the research that is coming out about happiness, which is proving that happiness is found in showing kindness to others.  There is also a lot of comfort in knowing that someone is also looking out for you.  I encourage you to find little ways to bless others this week – it is incredible in the way you can start to look at the world a little differently.

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of reading the reports of the children in the Junior Hub that have reached the middle or end of a 40 week cycle.  I was really struck by the evident love and enthusiasm the teachers had for each child and their learning.  It was also great to see some wonderful improvements and excellent achievement.  We are blessed to have a teaching staff that are passionate about what they do and dedicated to the individual needs of each child.  Please uphold our teachers in prayer over the holidays, that they would find rest and relaxation before they begin to prepare for a busy Term 4!

A very big thank you to the PCG for their organisation of the Lego Day.  It was a really lovely event and it was great to see so many people pitching in to help.  Events like that don’t happen without the passion and enthusiasm of individuals working together, so thank you for blessing our community in this way.

Next term we will be focussing on Love and Peace.  We will be having a focus on cultures and how we can bring peace to our world through celebrating the different cultures of the world.  We hope you will be willing to share aspects of your culture with our school community.

Have a blessed holiday and we look forward to working with you again next term!

Many blessings,

Liz

Exploring the Values at Home

Excellence award applications need to be in by the end of this week. Please see the questions below to prompt your child’s thinking around Excellence and why they deserve an excellence award.

The application should be in the form of a letter to the Leadership Team, and cover the points below.  Photos and other evidence that support the child’s application are really helpful.  This should be a process of reflection for your child – help them to celebrate the progress they have made!

Discuss:
What does Love and Excellence look like? How have you shown this at home, in class and in the playground at school?
What have you learnt this term about how God wants us to treat others? How have you done these things?
What have you worked really hard at this term? What were your results?
What Home Learning have you done? How has this developed excellence?
In circle time we have been learning about having excellent thoughts. What ‘Rules’ have you remembered? How have these helped you to be growing in excellence?

Family challenge of the week:
Apply for your Excellence award based on the questions above.

What’s Coming Up

School Holidays
We wish you a lovely holiday period with your families and look forward to seeing you at 9am on Monday 10 October.

Rolleston 150th Celebration
On October 14 – 16 the Rolleston Community is celebrating its 150th anniversary. The PCG have a couple of ways that we can be involved with this celebration.

One of these is a parade on the Sunday.  Events held on a Sunday have been discussed at Board level and it was decided that although the school will not create any events to be held on a Sunday and will not take part in any on-going events held on Sundays, the school, at the Principal’s discretion, can be involved in one-off events.  We felt that being part of the Rolleston Celebrations is an excellent way to be involved in our local community, HELPing and sharing some light.

Please consider being involved in the following ways:

  1. Helping the PCG with a stall at the celebrations – this will be Saturday and Sunday.
  2. Helping the PCG with marshalling at the event – this is most likely on the Saturday but please watch for more info on the Parent Facebook Group.
  3. Bringing your children along to walk in the parade – this is on the Sunday.

Please let the office know ASAP if you are able to be involved at all. Particularly if you are happy for your children to walk in the parade.

Please keep an eye on the Parent Facebook Group as Alan and the PCG will be coming with more information about ways to get involved.
