Quick Notes:

Message from Staff – Liz Horn

Dear Parents,

I was reading an article over the holidays about happiness. The article was discussing the path towards true happiness. It was interesting to see that research is showing that what I consider to be Christian Teachings is proving to be the path to happiness.

The article spoke about how we live in a society where acquiring things, becoming successful, and having the right house etc are marketed as providing the path to happiness (a small drive through Faringdon last night and I could see this type of advertising.). But it also spoke of how in this type of society the levels of depression are extremely high.

Research is apparently now showing that extending kindness is the most lasting way to experience happiness. To me this is in-line with how God asks us to live our lives – Love God with all your heart, soul and mind, and love others as you love yourself. When we look at the Bible’s definition of love the first two words are patient and kind.  It is great to know that God desires happiness for us, and that research is showing that by valuing mannakitanga (extending love) just as God calls each of us to do, we will in fact find the happiness that as humans we truly desire.

I encourage you to explore ways that you can be kind to those in our school community this term. I will also be encouraging the staff to find more and more ways that we can also extend kindness. It is such a simple concept, but in many ways so powerful. We have the ability to bring happiness to others and create happiness for ourselves simply through the small acts of kindness we can show each day.

Many blessings,

Bible Study for RCS Mums

There will be a Bible study running this term on Monday evenings at 7.30pm here at school. As there is a Parent Community Group Meeting next Monday the Bible study will be on Tuesday night. All mums are welcome, so come along and enjoy the opportunity to fellowship with one another and discuss God’s word.

Swimming will be held on Monday and Wednesdays for the first 5 weeks of this term. Please make sure that your children have the appropriate gear with them. A reminder that children should not swim if they have had any vomiting or diarrhoea in the previous 48 hours.

Cheese Rolls Fundraiser
Hopefully you have had a chance to get lots of orders over the holidays. Please remember to get these forms in by Thursday 22 October. Sign up forms for volunteering on ‘production day’ are up on the windows in the classroom block. Please sign up and help to make this fundraiser a success!

Informative Morning Teas
Informative morning teas will continue this term until Week 7. Please make time to come along, as this is a great time to connect with other parents while learning more about your child’s education. Our first one will begin in Week 2, and will look at Christian Education. There will be some parent directed sessions so please think of any topics that you would like to cover.

Assembly Time Changed
Due to parents requesting that Assembly be held either first or last thing in the day we are changing our assembly time to 2.15pm on a Friday afternoon. We hope this means you will find it easier to attend and join us in celebrating the learning that is taking place each week.

What’s Coming Up

School Photos

We have school photos NEXT MONDAY 19th October – please make sure your children are in full school uniform that day, without any thermal items underneath. If you would like to have some Family photos or Siblings photos taken, please tell the Office so this can be arranged to be done on the day. Order forms will come out after the photos are taken.

Open Morning for Potential Families

We have an Open Morning for families that are interested in sending their children to RCS in 2016 on October 27 at 9am. Please let anyone that might be interested know. They will have the opportunity to hear about the school, meet the leadership team and walk through the school in action.

  • We are getting to that time of year when it is important for the children to wear their hats. Please make sure your children have the school hat. If children to do not have a hat after Labour Day they will have to play in the shade only.
  • School lunches should be nutritious and healthy in order to maximise children’s opportunity to learn well. Please do not send lollies to school.
