Quick Notes:

Message from Staff – Liz Horn

As we come towards the end of our foundation year, it is a natural time to reflect on the year been and all that has occurred over that time.

For a number of years people have had a vision to see a Christian school established in this area, and at the beginning of this year they saw that vision come to fruition. As an Establishment Board and Foundation Principal, we established our early vision for what the School would become, and the type of teaching and learning that would take place here. Many of you would have come to the school because of the type of vision that was spoken about.

What has struck me though in the past month or so is that we are all an active part of what now comes to fruition. A vision is established and communicated, but it is all the people involved that need to work together to bring that to fruition, seeking guidance and strength from the Lord as we do the work He gives us. Big dreams for an institution don’t come to being by accident or overnight, they take time, openness, perseverance, mistakes, successes and team work, and most importantly a lot of prayer.

I’ve been quite struck by a number of parents recently that are passionately getting involved in order to see our school become the wonderful place it will be. These range from people pitching in with the bark on the playground, the 8000 cheese rolls that were made, the work on the Board of Trustees, supporting the teachers in the classroom, helping with the development of the school landscaping, starting a touch team, and the list goes on.

Time and again I have had people tell me they can see the benefits of having a Christian school in the Rolleston Community. What a privilege and responsibility we all have to see a strong Christian School established, and the flow on effect this can have on our community as a whole.

I encourage you to be a part of what we are building. Take part in the discussions about the vision and values of the school, and then seek God about the part that you can play, not only in establishing our school but also bringing light and love to the wider Rolleston Community.

Many blessings,

Liz Horn

 What’s Happening

Thank You!

Thank you for your support with the Rolleston Fireworks Night. There were lots of people that worked together at different aspects of the project to bring it all together, so thank you for being a part of it. A special thank you to the PCG fundraising team that pulled everything together. It was great to have a presence in the community, and also have the opportunity to raise $800 for the school.

Missing Spade

We have a missing spade after our planting day a week ago. It is a long handled spade, similar to one that is still here at school. If anyone has taken the wrong one by mistake it would be great if they could bring it back.

Bible Study for RCS Mums – Tonight

There will be a Bible study running this term on Monday evenings at 7.30pm here at school. All mums are welcome, so come along and enjoy the opportunity to fellowship with one another and discuss God’s Word.

Consultation – Values and Graduate Attributes

The staff have been working hard to develop what the New Zealand Curriculum calls the school’s ‘Front-end Curriculum.’ This outlines our school’s vision, values, and graduate attributes. We are at a point where we need to ask two questions of parents – ‘Is this what you want for your children and is there anything missing?’. I’m looking for anyone that might be interested in taking 1 hour with a small group of other parents to look at the ideas we have and to answer those two questions. If you are keen to be involved please contact Liz directly on Vests
If you would like a Safety Vest for your child – please talk to Jenny Brosnan.

What’s Coming Up

We will be having a Community Picnic Day on 16 December (PLEASE NOTE CHANGE FROM LAST WEEK). The Parent Community Group are working with the school staff to organise a day of fellowship and fun, and we would love it if you could attend. More details to come.

Scholastics Book Fair – Week 8

We will be having a Scholastics Book Fair in Week 8. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase Christmas presents, and books or activities to keep children occupied over the summer break. We will also create a list of books the school would like, if you should want to purchase books for donation.

  • The bell rings at 8.55am. If your child arrives after 9am they are late. To ensure our roll taking procedures work we ask that you stop in at the office to let us know you are late, should you arrive after 9am.
  • We are getting to that time of year when it is important for the children to wear their hats. Please make sure your children have the school hat. If children do not have a hat they will have to play in the shade only.
  • School lunches should be nutritious and healthy in order to maximise children’s opportunity to learn well. Please do not send lollies to school.
  • Informative Morning Teas are held every Tuesday. If you have a topic you would like to discuss let Liz know.
  • Home Learning continues to be the same – please make sure you are providing this opportunity for quality learning at home.
  • The Parent Community Group do a lot of great work around the school – if you would like to get involved please see Mana Harema.
