Quick Notes:

Message from Staff – Lynda Siave

Kia ora te whanau

A lovely lady I work out with let it slip that there are 6 Monday’s until Christmas! I don’t know about you but it blows me away how quickly the years zip by these days. Perhaps it’s my age or perhaps it’s the pace at which we live our lives?

I am feeling particularly blessed as I reflect on the highlights we have enjoyed this term thus far.

The first 5 weeks (yes we are officially half way through the term) have been full on with swimming twice a week popped into the programme. Thanks to Amos Pilgrim for the stunning organisation of this event. Thank you parents for keeping on top of getting togs, towels and goggles to school!

I would like to acknowledge Kendra Liggett for the fabulous organisation she put in place to make our visit to the Show go smoothly last Thursday. Despite atrocious weather it was a very enjoyable day and I’m sure all the children who attended slept very well that night. I was especially proud of the wonderful behaviour our children displayed at the Show even though at times the weather made the trip a bit difficult. They all showed huge resilience. Of course the day would not have even happened had it not been for the generosity of time given by our parent/grandparent community. Thank you all.

It has also been exciting to be thinking and planning ahead for 2016. In particular as a Leadership Team and staff we have been exploring the values for which we wish to embed in our school’s culture for the future. We have chosen 5 values that the BOT are also excited about. What has been particularly great about this progress is what God has been saying to us as we pray and reflect on His Word to develop these ideas.

As parents you will also be making big decisions about your children and their future education. Particularly if they are in the Middle Hub. We’re blessed to have been allowed to move our school to a year 0-8 cohort.

This time last year I asked God to guide me about my next steps in my career. When I saw the advertisement in the gazette, I found the following verses invaluable as I prayed for God’s guidance. I urge you to seek God’s word as you make those very important decisions about you and your family’s next steps too.

Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Philippians 4:6-7 ESV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the Peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Thanks again for your continued support and understanding for us, as your partners in your child/ren’s educational journey.

Love and blessings,

Lynda Siave
Junior Hub Team leader

 What’s Happening

Morning Drop Offs

We would like to remind parents that the RCS staff are ready to supervise your children from 8.30am. Prior to this time Papa Jacks staff are providing a service to families that need kids to be dropped off before this. Papa Jacks provides an excellent service to our School Community and the wider community too. If you are needing to drop your children off before 8.30am please contact Papa Jacks to arrange official Before School Care.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the part you’ve played in making our first ever swimming lessons at RCS a positive one. The children have developed so much over the 10 lessons and I hope they have the chance over the coming weeks and months to further practice what they’ve learnt.
Selwyn Aquatic Centre are currently collating the results and will send me the swimming levels which I’ll give out in due course.
If you haven’t paid for the 10 lessons yet please see Heather in the office to arrange payment at your soonest convenience.

Thank you!

Thank you so much to the parents and grandparents who helped on the A&P Show trip. The day was very successful and it was a great experience for the children. We are missing some “Parent packs”. If you still have one tucked in your bag, please bring it back to Miss Liggett. If you have any photos of the trip, please email them to Miss Liggett – Bless you all!

Missing Spade

We have a missing spade after our planting day a week ago. It is a long handled spade, similar to one that is still here at school. If anyone has taken the wrong one by mistake it would be great if they could bring it back.

If you are planning to move in 2016 and your children will not attend RCS please let us know. If you have any questions regarding the programme next year please pop in for a chat.

Consultation – Values and Graduate Attributes

The staff have been working hard to develop what the New Zealand Curriculum calls the school’s ‘Front-end Curriculum.’ This outlines our school’s vision, values, and graduate attributes. We are at a point where we need to ask two questions of parents – ‘Is this what you want for your children and is there anything missing?’. I’m looking for anyone that might be interested in taking 1 hour with a small group of other parents to look at the ideas we have and to answer those two questions. If you are keen to be involved please contact Liz directly on Vests
If you would like a Safety Vest for your child – please talk to Jenny Brosnan.

What’s Coming Up

Community Picnic Day

We will be having a Community Picnic Day on 16 December. The Parent Community Group are working with the school staff to organise a day of fellowship and fun, and we would love it if you could attend. More details to come.

Scholastics Book Fair – Week 8

The Scholastic Book Fair is in week 8 (30th November-4th December). This is a great opportunity to buy books for Christmas gifts, and books or activities to keep children occupied over the summer break. We will also create a list of books the School would like, if you should want to purchase books for donation. Please advertise this event in your community spaces. If you need a poster to display, please see Miss Liggett.

Scholastics Book Fair – Volunteers Needed

Thank you to the volunteers who have offered to help so far. There is a sign up list on the Junior Hub window where you can sign up to service the Book Fair. Tasks will include setting up for the day, operating the till/eftpos machine, and closing the cases at the end of the day. See the sheet for sign up times or Miss Liggett for details.

 From the PCG

Bible Study for RCS Mums – Tonight

There will be a Bible study running this term on Monday evenings at 7.30pm here at school. All mums are welcome, so come along and enjoy the opportunity to fellowship with one another and discuss God’s Word.

Parent Community Group Meeting coming up in Week 8

The PCG will be having a planning meeting for the up-coming year in Week 8. If you would like to be a part of this meeting it would be great to have you along.

Purchase items and raise money for the school

Below is the link to a website that sells all sorts of useful things. A portion of each purchase goes towards the school.

  • The bell rings at 8.55am. If your child arrives after 9am they are late. To ensure our roll taking procedures work we ask that you stop in at the office to let us know you are late, should you arrive after 9am.
  • We are getting to that time of year when it is important for the children to wear their hats. Please make sure your children have the school hat. If children do not have a hat they will have to play in the shade only.
  • School lunches should be nutritious and healthy in order to maximise children’s opportunity to learn well. Please do not send lollies to school.
  • Informative Morning Teas are held every Tuesday. If you have a topic you would like to discuss let Liz know.
  • Home Learning continues to be the same – please make sure you are providing this opportunity for quality learning at home.
  • The Parent Community Group do a lot of great work around the school – if you would like to get involved please see Mana Harema.
