Quick Notes:

Message from Staff – Amos Pilgrim

Kia ora and welcome to Week 8 of Term 3!

I hope you’ve all had a great Fathers Day weekend – personally I’m still full!

Matthew 5: 14-16
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

I’ve been thinking about this verse a lot lately and what it actually means to me and how I live my life.

To my mind lights have three very important roles. They are;

* To be a guide.

* To be seen.

* To be a warning.

As Christians God calls us to be a light to the world. If we change ‘world’ to ‘our community’ that makes our calling seem a little less daunting.  I’ve made an analogy using a car as the example. We are…
To be a guide e.g headlights. We are called to ‘not be hidden’ instead to let our lights shine for all to see. We are called to guide others to Christ through our words and actions.
To be seen e.g brake lights. We are the only Christian school in Rolleston, so we have the unique opportunity to be role models and examples to others in our community.
To warn. e.g hazard lights. We must at times act as a warning to ourselves, other Christians and our community by using the Bible as our reference.
Like our cars we need regular check ups to ensure that our lights are functioning as our manual (the Bible) says they should. I am so thankful to work in an environment where I am surrounded by people shining their lights on a daily basis.
Finally, let’s all do good deeds and not for personal acknowledgement but to glorify God. I pray that everyone will have a week in which we let our light shine and glorify God in doing so.

 What’s Happening

Road Works Update

The road works will be continuing around the school, but we will continue to have access to the school. Please approach the school from the Rolleston Side of the school and leave via the Lincoln side. At some stage this week they will fill in our driveway again, but this will be a short job and will be done outside of drop-off and pick-up times.

Informative Morning Tea – Junior Numeracy Come along and join us for morning tea at 9.15am Tuesday morning. This week we will be discussing Junior Numeracy and how you can help your child at home. Maths is taught quite differently from when you would have been at school, so it is a good idea to learn how things are done and ways that you can help.

RCS Parent Community Group Meeting – THIS TUESDAY (please note change of day)

Please come along at 7pm this Tuesday if you would like to get involved in the RCS Parent Community Group. For all existing members an agenda is currently being circulated.

Information Evening for Potential Families – TONIGHT

If you are aware of anyone that is interested in discovering more about our school please encourage them to come along tonight, 7pm, to hear all they need to know and have the opportunity to ask questions.

Thank you!

Thank you to RCS Families for supporting The Sausage Sizzle last Friday.

We raised $180.00 for sandpit toys, an Awesome Effort!

Big thanks to our Mums for supervising so we didn’t burn the school down, and Mr Marshall, although he did burn one or two sausages. Also, Mr Alan Whitmore for donating the UHT milk and New World Rolleston.

It was great to have the Sheath family visit and join in our sausage sizzle too.

Thank You,

Gus and Zac

Kapa Haka Performance

We are now just over a week away from our first Kapa Haka performance as a School, next Tuesday the 15th September, at Cashmere High School, in their Performing Arts Centre. We will be having a quick practise at our school at 5.30pm before departing for the venue (Cashmere High). We need to be seated at Cashmere High by 6.15pm and we are the first performance following a 7pm start. Children will go on to the stage from their seats. If you do not wish to stay for the whole festival, you may take your child home at any point following their performance. If you stay for the whole performance and your child is a bit tired the following morning, we will happily accommodate a later start for these children.
It is recommended that you bring a finger food snack and drink for your child if they have not had tea prior to coming, or if you think they will need something during the wait at Cashmere. We have a few children who will need transport from RCS to Cashmere and back, and I will be contacting those who have offered transport for this. As this is our first public appearance, please try to keep a clean Polo Shirt for the performance.
Finally, we have a few tickets left for the performance but these will sell out quickly.  Please contact Heather asap if you would like these.
If you have any further questions, please come and see me.
Dennis Marshall
