Quick Notes:

Message from Staff – Dennis Marshall

Isn’t it hard to believe that we are about to begin Week 9 of the third term! It seems like just yesterday we were at the Scout Den wondering when we would get into our new building. It was only the other day I was showing somebody new around the school and retelling the story of how the staff felt when we first walked into the building, once the carpet was down but no furniture in place. It felt more like a home than a school!

Even today I think the school has more of a home like feel, than that of a traditional school. The current size of the school certainly makes it feel like an extended family – although our extended family seems to be ‘extending’ quite quickly now!

In the Middle Hub we have been focussing on being Kaitiaki towards each other – treating each other like family! We have been discussing how we should interact and talk to each other. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 tells us to ‘…encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.’  That is an important factor in building strong relationships within our school community. James 3:5 also discusses how we use our words, ‘Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.’  These are great ideals and principles to live by. I find as I discuss these verses with the children I’m thinking to myself, “I wish I was able to keep to these verses myself – always saying the right thing!”.  However, James also says ‘We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check’.  I really like the book of James and feel it has so many insights into life. I find Chapter 3 one of the key passages in the Bible and one I’d certainly recommend reading again.

Of-course, speaking of using our tongues, this week is a big one for the school – our first public appearance!  This Tuesday we are starring at the Kapa Haka festival, we are the Opening Act! Don’t miss the chance to see your kids in fine voice. I have been incredibly impressed by how much they have improved since we started Kapa Haka and I’m really looking forward to seeing them perform. I hope to see you there.

God Bless

 What’s Happening

Bringing up concerns
If you have any concerns regarding anything that occurs at school then please remember to come directly to us to discuss this.  At times we may not be able to share specific interventions that are in place for individual children as this breeches the confidentiality of our students, but we are able to assure you that we are being pro-active. Please remember that the most helpful people to discuss issues with are the people that are directly involved and in a position to speak into an issue. Discussing issues outside of these parameters will generally be unhelpful at best and destructive at worst.

Informative Morning Tea – How to monitor progress
Come along and join us for morning tea at 9.15am Tuesday morning. This week we will be discussing ways to monitor your child’s progress and how you can help your child at home.

Cheese Rolls Fundraiser

The RCS Parent Community Group are organising a Cheese Rolls Fundraiser. Please look out for an order form in your child’s bag. We need you help to make this a success!

  • If you have any clean tarpaulins that could be used to cover the floor during production we would appreciate it.
  • Production day will be October 31st. Please put it in your diaries now so you are free to come and join the production line. A couple of hours or the full day are fine – just whatever you feel you can manage.
  • Start collecting orders. This can only be a success if we have lots of orders. There will be prizes for the families that get the biggest orders.

WE NEED HELP  – we would also like to offer people a delivery service, so if you have a trailer and a couple of hours free on Saturday please get in touch with Mana.

Kapa Haka Performance – TOMORROW EVENING

We are now one sleep away from our first Kapa Haka performance as a School, tomorrow –  Tuesday the 15th September, at Cashmere High School, in their Performing Arts Centre. We will be having a quick practise at our school at 5.30pm before departing for the venue (Cashmere High). We need to be seated at Cashmere High by 6.15pm and we are the first performance following a 7pm start. Children will go on to the stage from their seats. If you do not wish to stay for the whole festival, you may take your child home at any point following their performance. If you stay for the whole performance and your child is a bit tired the following morning, we will happily accommodate a later start for these children.
It is recommended that you bring a finger food snack and drink for your child if they have not had tea prior to coming, or if you think they will need something during the wait at Cashmere. We have a few children who will need transport from RCS to Cashmere and back, and I will be contacting those who have offered transport for this. As this is our first public appearance, please try to keep a clean Polo Shirt for the performance.
Finally, we have a few tickets left for the performance but these will sell out quickly.  Please contact Heather asap if you would like these.
If you have any further questions, please come and see me.
