Quick Notes:

Message from Staff – Amos Pilgrim

Kia Ora everyone and welcome to week four of term two!

‘Communication is the key.’

After reflection on what the above quote means to me as an educator, I feel satisfied that as staff, children and parents involved with RCS we can feel safe in the knowledge that we are all trying our best to be transparent and innovative to meet the needs of all involved.

One size doesn’t fit all. This saying is true when it comes to communication. Here at RCS the staff strive to be clear communicators and I believe we achieve this by using various methods. In our lessons we communicate orally, visually and kinaesthetically, thereby catering to the needs of all learners.

I feel confident that while we are still setting up our communication systems we are willing to try numerous ways of getting our message across just as Jesus did. Between our weekly emailed newsletter with online links, to blogs from the principal and team leaders, Facebook updates, to paper copy notices, and of course the best form of communication…. The spoken word. I think we are developing the concept of critical thinkers through the above methods and I’ve been encouraged by witnessing teacher / child / parent / community conversations taking place before, during and after school – keep it up!

Research shows that the stronger the communication links are between children, parents and teachers the better the educational outcome is. So while communication is the key, it is up to us all to use that key to unlock the door to better relationships.

NIV James 1: 19-20 “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.”

 What’s Happening

Literacy Information Evening – This Tuesday
We are holding an information evening for parents, focussing on children’s learning and development in the area of literacy. This will be a chance for you to understand the approach we take at school when teaching reading and writing, for us to share ideas with you on the best ways you can help your children at home, and an opportunity for parents to share with each other about things that have worked for them.

Learning Blogs
Please click on the links above to see the Learning Blogs for the Middle and Junior Hubs. These blogs are designed to help you, as parents, to have a deeper understanding of the learning that is taking place at school and ways that you can therefore help with this at home.

Message from the Middle Hub
Hello RCS. For Living Christianly the Middle Hub have been thinking about this: There has been a major disaster in Nepal, so on the Friday 15 May 2015 at Rolleston Christian School we will all wear red, white and blue mufti, because that’s the colour of the Nepalese flag. Also, with mufti you need a gold coin like $1 or $2. We hope to raise a lot of money and see people wearing red, blue and white on Friday. Thanks, Hazel

The parent community group would also like to support this initiative by running a sausage sizzle. Order forms will come home today and we ask that these are in by tomorrow, or Wednesday at the very latest.

Parent Facebook Group
Remember to look up the “Rolleston Christian School – Parent group” on Facebook.

Pastoral Care – Koha Box
The RCS Pastoral Care Committee are running a ‘Lunch Box Filler’ drive to collect non-perishable lunch box fillers for our children when they forget their lunch, have oopsies and spill or drop their food, and for when there are gaps in lunch boxes.  The fruit bowl is in the kitchen for the same reason and donations of fruit are gladly received.  For anyone who would like to contribute towards this there will be a collection box under the fruit bowl in the kitchen.  Thank you to those who have already been assisting with this.
Many thanks and Blessings, RCS Pastoral Care Committee

What’s Coming Up

Forest Planting day
Our Forest Planting day is coming up soon. If you are able to then please block out your diary to come and help your children with their tree planting efforts. Students are able to come in mufti that day and will need their gumboots and gardening gloves too. Date for the diary – May 26, 2015

  • As a staff we are in a morning meeting until 8.25am. We ask that whenever possible you drop your children off after this time, so we are able to greet your children and make sure they feel welcomed in the morning. If you are needing to drop your children off before this time please help them to find something quiet to do while they wait.
