Quick Notes:

Message from Staff – Lynda Siave

Talofa lava outou, Kiaora koutou katoa, greetings to you all,It’s a week since we planted our school forest and it was an amazing occasion for us all. Many  thanks to the enviro school team and parents/grandparents who supported us physically on this  day.  It was also one the of the coldest days I have experienced, despite having a few layers of wool on. The chilling wind was a harsh reminder that winter is here.

I was impressed by the tenacity of our children and their willingness to work hard physically to get the job done.  Some little students found the experience daunting and a bit over whelming to start with. However, the whanaungatanga (sense of belonging) that we have been practising at school really shone through that day. Little children were supported by their older whanau group members to persevere in the cold conditions. At the end of the planting one of our 5 years olds who had struggled with the cold and had become quite overwhelmed, said to me the tree planting session had been “the best day of her life!”.  She had managed to plant a tree pretty much by herself. The 180 degree turn around in attitude was thanks to all the support she received from others to stick with it and gain the very satisfying feeling of planting your own tree.

At RCS we believe God has asked us to be stewards of the earth (Kaitiaki) and it is an amazing privilege for us all to be involved in developing the school grounds as a school family. I shared this story with  a woman in her seventies in the weekend who told me whenever she drives down Blenheim road with her family she very proudly announces that she planted one of the big trees there. It had also been a school project  and she loved relaying to me her fond memories. What neat memories we are making together for our children at RCS!

Speaking of growth, this term we have five new entrants beginning school. Welcome to AJ, Leon, Micah, Noah and Zaria’s whanau. Like those little seedlings we planted last week it will be a joy to watch these little ones grow and develop at RCS.

Blessings to you all,

Lynda

A Message From Piwakawaka Whanau

Hello Parents and Caregivers,
For Whanau groups our Piwakawaka (fantail) group have been researching about making our school a better place. The Piwakawaka group came up with having a quiet space inside so that we can read and chill out in. So if possible may you please donate a tent, some soft toys and some pillows for our quiet space.

From Delcia (Middle Hub) and the Piwakawaka Whanau Group
