Message from Staff – Lynda Siave

Kiaora te whanau, hello RCS families,

How exciting it is to reach the week in which we see our school officially opened! It doesn’t seem that long since we were first came together in the Scout Den here in Rolleston. Haven’t we come a long way!

The children certainly have grown in terms of their learning and character development. Every day we see them growing in the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to put them on a life long journey of learning.  I hope we will see you in Week 4 (details to come) as we discuss ways in which we can work together in partnership to further extend your child’s learning in literacy.

I was particularly thrilled to hear three of our students pray after assembly last Friday. Their prayers were not typical of this – usually egocentric- age group; The children  prayed – not for themselves – but for the teachers, ANZAC soldiers and the visiting pastor. The adults were amazed at their mature and heart felt prayers.

I hope to see you at the opening ceremony on Friday, if not before. Have a great week.

 What’s Happening

RCS Community Group Meeting – TONIGHT -Tuesday 28 April

The RCS Community Group will be meeting at the school next Tuesday evening at 7pm. Come along if you are keen to be involved.

Official Opening Ceremony
Rolleston Christian School will have its official opening ceremony this Friday at 11am.  We are looking forward to this wonderful event in the development of the school.

What’s Coming Up

Book Covering
We have a number of books that are needing to be covered for the library. If you are interested in setting up a working bee with a few parents, then please come and see us at the office.

BOT Elections
Thank you to those people who have been nominated for the BOT. Voting papers will be distributed by Wednesday 29 April. These need to be handed into the office in the official returning envelope by no later than Friday 8 May, 12pm.

Parent Information Evening – Literacy Focus
We are holding an information evening for parents, focussing on children’s learning and development in the area of literacy. This will be a chance for you to understand the approach we take at school when teaching reading and writing, for us to share ideas with you on the best ways you can help your children at home, and an opportunity for parents to share with each other about things that have worked for them. Date for your diary – Tuesday 12 May, 7pm.

  • If your children are starting to feel a little cold at school they may wear a black thermal underneath their polo-shirt. The girls can also wear black woollen stockings and the boys can start to wear long black socks.
  • Prayer meetings are held every Friday morning at 9am. Please come along if you are keen to join us in prayer, and also feel free to send in any prayer requests.
  • You are welcome to join us for Full School Devotions first thing on a Monday morning and our Learning Celebrations on Friday.
  • The Learning at Home Programme is up on our website (link above). We are continuing with the same matrix as last term. We felt that there was still plenty of scope for children to choose from with the current matrix.
