Message from Staff – Lynda Siave

One of the wonderful things that has struck me since beginning at RCS is the opportunity to meet with parents regularly and get to know you all on a personal level. I believe parents are their children’s first teachers. When you share how your child is feeling about school it helps me to plan learning that will develop them individually. Having a family that has now traversed the whole of the education system (my eldest graduates from university in April) has helped me understand how connected each stage in a child’s learning journey can be. Each part of this journey is special and helps to shape them for the next step. As always, I am happy to listen to your reflections about your child. Together we can make school a successful and fulfilling experience for them.

Blessings
Lynda

What’s Happening – Kapa Haka

We are extremely blessed to have Matua Anton working with our children each Thursday afternoon, teaching the children about Maori culture through Kapa Haka. Matua Anton has a strong connection with both Maori culture and the Christian faith. This combination is very important to our school as we seek to embrace the desire God has for our nation to be a united people, where we honour the cultures of New Zealand, recognise the importance of Maori culture, and honour The Treaty of Waitangi, as God originally intended. Matua Anton has an incredible way with the children and this time is becoming a real highlight of the school week.

What’s Coming Up

RCS Board Elections – Now that our school is up and running we need to move from an Establishment Board of Trustees to a parent elected board. We have four positions to fill through this election. If you are keen to be involved in the development of our school at a governance level then please look at the following information here. Being a trustee is a rewarding and extremely important role. We need people who are passionate about developing a highly effective Christian school, and are willing to bring the gifts, skills and passions they have to the role. Nominations will open April 10 and close April 24.

Production at Emmanuel Christian School – We are planning to take all the children to Emmanuel Christian School’s production on 1 April, leaving school at 12pm. We will need some parent assistance for transport. If you are able to help with this that would be great. The cost of the production is $2 per child.

Official Opening Ceremony (Save the Date) – We have had confirmation now from the EBOT that the official opening for the school will be held Friday 1 May, 11am.  The Minister of Education will attend and have the honour of officially opening the school. We would love for as many school families as possible to attend.

Library Book Covering 18 March 10am – Janet from Hillview is going to come and give instructions for covering our new Library books. We are very thankful to the parents that have covered our instructional reading books. If you are available to help with library books please come along to learn how this is done.

Reminders

  • There are a number of children who are bringing two minute noodles to school. We are finding these to be a health and safety risk in our context as they involve boiling water. We would appreciate it if you could find alternative options for school lunches.
  • You are welcome to join us for Full School Devotions first thing on a Monday morning, and our School Learning Celebration on a Friday at 12pm.
  • Prayer meetings will be held at 9am every Friday morning. Feel free to join us in prayer, or let us know if you have any prayer requests.
  • The Learning at Home Programme is up on our website (link above). Please explore this with your children.
  • Reading at home daily will make a big impact on your child’s progress in this area. Please ensure your children are reading daily.
