It is wonderful to be back at school today and see all the children’s smiling faces. I had a great week touring the North Island Christian schools with the South Island Christian School principals. The tour has helped to prompt my thinking about the next steps for the school and was also a good opportunity to build relationships with the other Christian School principals.
Last Monday I had a great meeting with three of our senior students about the 40 Hour Famine. These students attended a leadership day run by World Vision, and have come back to school passionate about raising money for the children of Syria through the 40 Hour Famine. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with these students as it was evidence that students are starting to feel empowered that “Through their faith they can HELP bring light to world.” They have a number of fantastic ideas for raising money as a school and encouraging participation in the famine by as many children as possible.
Completing the 40 hour famine is one of the Home Learning options this term. As we look at Love and Peace this term it is important to look at ways we can bring Hope to a nation of children that are growing up in an environment that is the complete opposite to Love and Peace. I encourage you to explore the option of your child doing the Famine – they do not need to give up food, any significant item can be used. I have seen some children give up their favourite toy or their i-Pad for the 40 hours.
The student leaders have set a goal of $4000. I pray they will see this come to fruition.
Thank you to those who have completed the Community Consultation survey. It is an important opportunity for you, as parents, to partner with the school to shape the strategic direction for the next five years at Rolleston Christian School. It is a reasonably short survey but provides us with helpful information about what you value and would like to see. I encourage you all to make the time to complete the survey.
RCS Community Consultation 2017
For the past three years the Board and Staff at Rolleston Christian School have been focussed on the establishment phase of the school. The Board is satisfied it is now time to move into the next phase of the school’s life, so will be having a retreat in June to set the vision and strategic goals for the next five years. The Board is keen to hear your views about this next phase and where the priorities should lay. We appreciate you taking the time to prayerfully answer the following questions. Please uphold the Board in prayer as they work together to bring glory to God in this school.

Welcome to RCS – Miss Whitla
Kia ora! Ko Emma Whitla ahau. I have just completed my Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Primary) and am excited to begin my teaching career at Rolleston Christian School with the Te Pihinga team. I worship at Upper Riccarton Methodist Church and it will be a privilege to help students grow in confidence through the love of Christ. Within my teaching, I hope I will show students that excellence is not about being the best, but being the best that Christ created them to be! I love seeing the joy students feel when they grasp a new concept and are able to put those skills into practice.
In my free time I enjoy running, catching up with friends, and going to the movies. I love history, reading and current affairs and try to engage students through content which will be relevant to them. I look forward to working alongside the staff and community at RCS to best meet the needs of your children. Please do come and say hi if you get a chance it would be lovely to meet you!

Alison Mooney – Pressing the Right Buttons – 16th June 7-8pm – FREE EVENT – Limited Tickets
Are you being driven nuts by someone who can’t make up their mind? Or exasperated by someone’s need to get it perfect, every time! Perhaps you have a “Show Pony” in your life, that keeps horsing around, even before they talk! Or are you feeling short changed when the most “outspoken” person gets what they want every time. But in reality, those “weird’ people that you want to sort out, are the very same people who want to sort you out. Perhaps they’re not ‘weird’, but just ‘wired’ in a certain way.
Alison will share with you:
The 4 personality types of people that you know.
The importance of understanding and respecting each others differences.
Alison’s talk “Pressing The Right Buttons†will make you laugh as you learn more about yourself, your friends, your family and your work mates.
From the PCG
The PCG will be selling The Entertainment Book again this year. The link below allows you to buy the book all around the country, so please share it with friends and family. The school receives $13 for each book sold. http://www.entbook.co.nz/9b26634. There is a example book in the office foyer.PCG Box
There is a wooden box in the office foyer for anyone to place any anonymous prayer request, messages, suggestions, questions or information on people in need of meals. Please take advantage of this.
Informative Afternoon Teas
Information sessions have begun again! We have moved to an afternoon slot to enable Liz Horn to be present and it will happen three times a term rather than every week. Our first one is happening on Tuesday 16th May, 2-3pm. The topic is how to understand school reports.
These days school reports look a whole lot different from when we were at school. There are different words used, and graphs too! It is really helpful to have them explained a bit. Some children have just had their first report at the end of last term, and others will have them sent out at the end of this term. Please bring any questions you have, and pre-schoolers are welcome.
ASB School Banking
Encouraging children to save is still really important to ASB and myself. Whilst we move more into a digital world it is still very important children understand positive savings behaviours and how money gets to their account.Kylie Rochford
