Message from Staff

Kia ora koutou,

I pray this newsletter finds you well.  It is so nice to see the sun out again today, particularly as it makes such a difference to the children’s learning in class when they are also able to get outside and enjoy physical activity while exploring their world.

I was so blessed to see the positive affirmation given to Kendra last week for her newsletter contribution.  When I originally decided that I wanted different staff members to write the newsletter message my intention was for our school community to have an insight into who each staff member is, as I believe that the basis of a strong partnership is trust and very rarely can we trust someone we don’t know.  I love reading what the staff decide to write, as it gives insight into the things they are passionate about, thinking about or care deeply about. In the busyness of the school day it is sometimes difficult for you to have an opportunity to connect with the different staff members, so I’m really glad you have the chance to build an understanding of who each person is through reading the newsletters.

Last Wednesday we celebrated Support Staff Day.  This is a national day to recognise the support staff who work in schools.  Support Staff are often the people in a school whose work is very demanding and their work can often feel to be undervalued.  As a teaching team we put on a morning tea to say thank you to our very dedicated and hardworking team of support staff – administrators, learning assistants and our caretaker. We are so thankful for this team, as they help to make a very demanding profession a manageable one.  If you see one of our team of support staff I encourage you to affirm them in the great work they do.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our school cross country on Friday.

Blessings,

Liz

Paid Union Meeting
There is another Paid Union Meeting for the staff on June 20 in the afternoon.  This meeting is a follow up to the previous Union Meeting regarding teacher and principal contracts.  It would be greatly appreciated if you could show your support for the teaching profession by picking your children up at lunchtime (1pm).  If this is not possible the school is still open, so please let us know by emailing the office that your child will be remaining at school so we can arrange for the appropriate number of staff to stay behind.

Community Dental Van
The mobile dental van will be visiting Rolleston Christian in the coming weeks. Only the children who currently require a check-up will be seen at this visit.  Please do not be concerned if your child is not called for a check-up this time as we will be back later in the year to see all enrolled children.

From the Board

The BOT met last Wednesday and would like to feedback a couple of important things that were discussed at Board level.

Firstly, we are excited to say that the plans for a new learning block for Te Kakano are well underway.  You should see the removal of the house between the playground and car park in the next month or two, and then the ground works for the new building will begin shortly after.  The Christian Schools Trust is taking the lead on this project, taking input from us in regards to the direction the school is headed.

Secondly, we were able to take another step in our partnership with the Christchurch Education Network Community of Learners. We have approved that the school will support the decisions made by a Stewardship Group for the network in regards to the direction and strategy of the CoL (Community of Learners) and have appointed Mark Larson to represent us on this.

Thirdly, we are looking forward to having our Strategic Direction displayed on our school website soon, so you are able to know what we are expecting of the school leadership team.

Finally, we would like to say thank you to our administrative team and BOT Finance Committee for their diligence as we have received positive feedback from our auditors about the way our school is being administered.
