Kelly Sports Te Kakano- Please come in sports gear (Whanau Colours)
Thank you to all the parents who came along to our maths afternoon on Wednesday last week. The children were very excited to share their maths learning and their activities with you. I know that in my room the children had been looking forward to it all week and thought it was awesome that they were able to be the teachers and teach their parents how to do their activities. School and home partnerships are so important to encourage children in their learning and also for parents to gain a greater understanding of their children’s education and how they could support them at home.
In Whanau groups this term we are working on a special project that is brand new to our school. Each Whanau group is preparing a presentation for the school and our families. It will be a celebration of the Arts and the children’s creative ideas and special talents. Each group has chosen what they want to present so you will see some plays, songs, dancing and sharing of talents. We have been very busy practising and making props over the past few weeks. A date has not yet been confirmed but we are looking at one afternoon around the middle of next term for the presentations. We will have the date and time set as soon as possible and keep you updated with further information. The children are already very excited and can’t wait to share with you what they have put together.
It has been awesome to see how engaged and excited the children are about this terms LIGHTS topic of bees. Not only are they doing some amazing work during LIGHTS time but they are also further exploring this topic in their own time. I regularly have excited children coming up to me to tell me how many bees they have seen, how they spied a bumblebee or a honey bee, how they have spotted bees collecting pollen and nectar and much more. Last week one child shared with me five different pictures and articles she had discovered in newspapers at home. She was so excited that other people were exploring the same topic as her and that she knew all about what the articles were describing. In class we are currently looking at why bees are so important and how we can help them.
In Living Christianly in Te KÄkano we have just started looking at what the bible says about helping others and why we should help each other. We encourage you to ask your child about what they have learnt so far and what they can do to be a helper and spread God’s love.
Welcome to RCS
Kapa Haka Festival This week (Thursday 14th September), our wonderful children will be performing at a Kapa Haka festival being held at Ellesmere College – Po Whakangahau. The start time of the concert is 4pm and our children are scheduled to perform at 5pm. All are welcome to attend this is excellent concert. Entry is by gold coin at the door.
Last year there were some very talented performers that certainly stuck in our memories – including our small Kapa Haka group of last year. This year we have around 40 children representing the school and we are looking forward to seeing them perform. Hope to see you there.
For those parents whose children are performing we will be leaving the school at 3.20pm and meeting in Room 7 at Ellesmere College, 11a Leeston Dunsandel Rd, Leeston 7632. There is a scheduled break immediately following our performance and you may leave at this point if the scheduled finish time of 6.30pm is too late for your children.
Further details and directions can be obtained from Mr Marshall.
