Kia Pai Tatou – Happy Matariki Week!  Year 1-2

Matariki is going to be celebrated in style this week in Te KÄkano and our parents are invited to join us for our afternoon sessions (2:20pm-3:00pm)

Matariki Monday – Kumara growing (come and help set a kumara up to grow)

Matariki Tuesday – Circle of Thanks (to Identify what we are thankful for, discuss why we are thankful & draw a picture of those things)

Matariki Wednesday – no parent celebration that day due to Kelly Sports

Matariki Thursday – Card Making & Kapa haka (make a card for someone we are thankful for then come and try kapahaka with Matua Anton)

Matariki Friday – Feast Friday – Wear star themed clothes all day!
WHOLE SCHOOL: Come at 1:30pm with a cultural dish to share with the school, watch a perfomance then join in with some MÄori Explore activties.

Planning Ahead – Term 3 

Early Finishes
Week 2 Monday 31st July & Week 6 Monday 28th June – 2pm

Next term we will be finishing at 2pm on the dates above.  These early finishes are to allow the staff to have extra long staff meetings on these days in order to do collaborative work on the enhancement of the teaching and learning programmes.

This work is based around a process called The Spirals of Inquiry.  As part of this we will also be interviewing parents to understand from you how you see your child’s learning and development.  If you are interested in being part of this process please get in touch with Liz.

2018 Student Roll Planning

As plans are underway for 2018, would you please be able to let the office know if your child/ren will NOT be attending Rolleston Christian School in 2018. Thank you for your help.

Reminders

Donations
A reminder please that school donations are an important aspect of operations.  Although school donations aren’t compulsory they do allow for more flexibility in the budget, allowing us to provide more for your children.  School donations go to the BOT, while your Attendance Dues go directly to the Christian Schools Trust to cover the cost of the land and buildings. If you haven’t paid your donation yet we appreciate you carefully considering if you are able to.

Swimming Costs
There are a number of outstanding Swimming Costs.  Swimming lessons are subsidised through grants but these do not cover the cost entirely.  Swimming is part of the curriculum and we would never want a child to miss out on this due to money, but it is greatly appreciated when those that can afford to pay the $30 do pay. If you have not yet paid for your child’s swimming and you are in a position to do so we would appreciate your prompt action with this.

Getting to school on time
Please remember to arrive at school prior to 8.55am.  The children start their ‘formal learning time’ at this point, so are missing out on learning if they are not at school on time.  Both hubs have learning activities for the children to do from 8.30am so it is advised you make the most of this time too. Please also advise the office if your child will be absent for the day, if you are taking them out early, or if they arrive late to school; so that they are marked correctly in our school roll.

Selwyn Movie NightsWe are holding four Selwyn Movie Nights over the winter months for the Selwyn District to watch some great movies on the big screen! On the 26 May we screened ‘Zooptopia’ where we had over 100 people attend. Over the past few weeks created a community vote via Facebook for the next movie, the winner was…. Despicable Me (2010).

‘Despicable Me’ will be hosted at the Lincoln Event Centre on 30^th June, 7pm-8.45pm. A great chance for families to spend their Friday evening relaxing in the warmth – they can even bring their own blanket, bean bag, or cushion. BYO snacks or purchase snacks and hot drinks on arrival or during intermission!
